Israel launches full scale assault and says it was "defending" itself
June 1, 2010 Shades of Gray: Ray Hanania's Comic Strip

Israel launched a massive assault against a flotilla of boats seeking to break the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip and bring food and medicine to the 1.5 million starving Palestinians, and Israel's response from Danny Ayalon, the Deputy Foreign Minister, is Israel was defending itself. It is an amazing demonstration of clever Public Relations spin. Israeli soldiers who stormed the boats with guns and with surprise in international waters, claimed that when they landed on the boat and surprised the passengers with their guns and full battle gear, the civilians on the boat tried to defend themselves, which in Israel's eyes is an act of aggression. Tragic.

Israel's Jerusalem the most closed city in the world today
Shade of Gray Comic Strips
Click the Comic strip to view a larger image
Israel insists that Jerusalem is now an Open City as a city occupied by the Israeli military and surrounded by a concrete wall and barbed wire, but since it has come under Israeli occupation since 1967, Jerusalem has become the most closed city in the world. Billions of people, mainly Arabs and Muslims and anyone who is a critic of Israel's brutal occupation and rejection of peace, are banned by the Israeli government from entering the city. Even Palestinians born in the city, Christian and Muslim, are denied the right to pray at their religious shrines and only armed settlers, who train their children to kill Arabs, are allowed free access to the Holy City.

Israel is given a pass on the critical issue of nuclear weapons by the United States. That hypocrisy undermines the world's efforts to control the proliferation of nuclear weapons and places the Middle East in a dangerous situation. Israel should be forced to open it's nuclear weapons sites for inspection by the World body and the United States should end the hypocrisy of giving Israel a waiver from principle, morality and the international rule of law.
